I was told today by The Goat that I approach Death Metal the same way that some approache fine wines.
I'll choose to take that as a complement, despite the fact that he confuses '97 techno-metal for "Death Metal". It may have the grinding overtones and unintelligible cacophony that typifies death metal to the untrained ear, but upon closer inspection one notes that it lacks the heavy arpeggiation and reliance on double-bass that is a hallmark of mid 80's death and black. Also, the vocals are not bellowed with the typical gutturals and incoherency of the truly hardcore as well as incoporating some elements of electronica, imparting fruity overtones that were quite ingenious at the time.
